Man who died in a fire in Annan has been named

A man who died in Annan on Tuesday, 19 November, 2024, has been named as Joseph Ernest Johnston.

Officers were made aware of a fire at a property on Lady Street around 6.55am on Tuesday, 19 November, 2024. Emergency services attended and the body of the 58-year-old was found within.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death and was due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court today, Thursday, 21 November, 2024.

Detective Inspector Graeme Robertson said: “Our thoughts are with Joseph’s family and friends at this difficult time and everyone in the local community affected by his death.”
