Last Update: 31st March
Today I would like to thank those police officers who have offered to postpone their planned retirement to support the organisation’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19).
It is yet another example of the dedication and commitment being displayed by our workforce on a daily basis.
We are considering a number of ways to maximise our resources and we have already moved hundreds of officers from back office functions to support colleagues in local policing.
The offer from officers to delay their retirement is a welcome boost to the work ongoing to ensure that we are best equipped to provide the right response to this pandemic.
For anyone considering whether to postpone their decision to retire, further details are available on the intranet, including the process of how to apply and the impact on pensions.
Our priority is to support the extraordinary work being done by our health service colleagues and it is great to see high levels of compliance from the public who are overwhelmingly adhering to the government’s instruction to stay at home.
Our officers are continuing to engage really positively with communities and it is important that we continue to influence the public’s behaviour in a constructive manner.
This means engaging, explaining, encouraging and enforcing only as a last resort when people continue to defy the guidance.
We are currently producing an aide memoire to distribute to officers which will cover some of the “need to know” facts for officers.
But we’re also keen for divisions to work with partners locally on solutions to issues which may be particular to your areas.
Discussions also continue with local authorities and the Scottish Government at strategic level to ensure that joint response to these unprecedented times.
Thank you again for all the excellent work which is being undertaken across the organisation.
We, in the Operation Talla command team, are committed to supporting your efforts by providing you with the right equipment and the right information and we will continue to keep you informed of any developments which will have an impact on our officers and staff.
