Free Digital and Data Skills Academy courses available

Free digital and data online courses – delivered by the Digital and Data Skills Academy (DDSA) – are now available to all officers and staff.

The wide range of courses which are relevant to many areas of business including Data Communications, Digital Media Investigators,  Cyber Investigations, ICT and Internet Investigation Units, provide an invaluable awareness of the fast moving and ever changing digital world.

The DDSA is a collaboration between Police Scotland and TRACER (Threat Risk Assessment Capability Exploitation and Research) which, in partnership with Cisco, are building a bespoke academy at the Scottish Police College to deliver training across multiple disciplines.

Assistant Chief Constable Angela McLaren said:

“The academy courses offer a wealth of training in technical skills and techniques, which everyone can complete at their own pace. I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to enrol.

“The courses provide an insight of the technological world and will benefit all staff, not just those working in this specialised area of law enforcement.

“In the current unprecedented circumstances, courses also provide great advice about how everyone can keep safe online.”

The courses have been designed for students over the age of 13 years. They provide a safe and recognised learning experience in addition to the support offered by schools and other online providers.

You can enrol here and courses include:

Beginner Introduction to Cybersecurity
Introduction to Internet of Things
Get Connected
NGD Linux Unhatched
Cybersecurity Essentials
Introduction to Networks CCNA1

You will be taken to details of the workshops and presentations and an in-class training tutorial describing the bespoke CCNA 1 Introduction to Networks course.

It signposts the 'policifying' of the technical training and provides students with a mini-lesson on IP and MAC addressing, alongside the pre-requisite distance learning that would be required before being considered for the classroom course.
When fully operational, the academy will create a training pathway for all digital investigators and SMEs in networks but also in cyber security and data extraction programming languages.

Courses reside on Cisco’s online global learning platform and cover a wide array of technical skills and techniques with the DDSA adding a ‘policing relevance’ section to signpost a number of the courses.
