What will happen if you abuse your partner
If you’re a domestic abuser, you’ll be punished for your behaviour. We’ll deal with your crime and make sure it’s not tolerated.
This is what will happen:
- we’ll investigate the crime
- we’ll build a strong case against you
- we can charge you
- the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal's Service can decide to prosecute you
- you may receive bail conditions to stop you committing more crime
- if you break your bail rules, you’ll be punished
A domestic abuser can be sent to prison for up to 14 years, fined, or both.
