What doxxing is
Doxxing (also called doxing) is when someone shares your information online without your consent. It’s usually done to scare or punish you.
Some doxxers want to reveal information they think you have hidden to protect your reputation.
Common information doxxers share
Doxxers often share personal information such as:
- home addresses
- work details
- phone numbers
- ID numbers
- bank information
- private messages
- criminal history
- personal photos
How to report doxxing
If you want to tell us about doxxing or online harassment, you can report it online, by phone, or in person.
What to do if doxxing happens
If you get doxxed, you can:
- Read advice on what to do if you get doxxed from UK Government Security
- report it to the social media or website it was shared on
- save or screenshot posts and messages (to give to us when you report it)
- block the sender
If you report it to us, it can help if you record:
- what was said or sent
- what platform, website, or app it was on
- when it was sent or posted
- the sender's name or username (if known)
- the sender's contact details (if known)
