Assistant Chief Constable Local Policing West
ACC Steve Johnson is the executive lead for local policing West which includes the portfolios for violence, missing persons and stop and search.
Steve joined Police Scotland in May 2016 when he was appointed Assistant Chief Constable. His portfolios included Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism, Specialist Crime Support and Intelligence Support.
He was seconded to the Scottish Police Authority in May 2019 to lead its Strategic Co-ordination Unit. During his tenure he worked in collaboration with Police Scotland, the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders to ensure the appropriate governance, accountability, decision making and stakeholder engagement was in place while Police Scotland worked through its significant programme of transformation.
Steve served in the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm before embarking on his policing career in 1995 when he joined West Midlands Police. Following a number of uniformed roles he then transferred to Cumbria Constabulary two years later and was promoted to Detective Superintendent in 2007. He held a variety of roles including Director of Intelligence, Head of Public Protection Unit and Head of Professional Standards.
In 2013, Steve took responsibility for Territorial Policing Command before his appointment as Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Cumbria Constabulary in 2014.
