What if I’m unhappy with the outcome of my complaint?
Non-criminal complaint
If you are not happy with Police Scotland’s response to your non-criminal complaint, you can refer that complaint to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner.
- Police Investigations & Review Commissioner: PO Box 20337, Hamilton, ML3 3BQ, enquiries@pirc.gov.scot, Main switchboard: 01698 542 900.
They may then carry out a review in how we handled your complaint.
The Commissioner must receive your application for review within three months of Police Scotland telling you about their complaint findings.
If your application is not received within that period, the Commissioner may be unable to accept your case.
Criminal complaint
If you’re not happy with the Criminal Allegations Against [the] Police Division’s decision about your criminal complaint, you can request a review.
This request must be made within one month. This is one month from you receiving notification of their decision to take no proceedings against the person who works for Police Scotland.
Further information can be obtained from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service website.
