Area Commander Chief Inspector Andrew McLean is the Area Commander for the Scottish Borders and is responsible for response policing, performance management and the daily management of personnel. He is supported by community Inspectors who are based at Kelso, Hawick and Galashiels, and a team of response Inspectors at Melrose. Scottish Borders Area Command The Scottish Borders has widely dispersed communities and a population of approximately 112,000. The General Register Office for Scotland estimates this will increase to around 130,000 over the next 20 years. The area covers a large and diverse geographical location with rolling hills, moorland, valleys, high agricultural plains and the rocky Berwickshire coastline. The Command Area’s Headquarters are based in Hawick.
