Area Commander Chief Inspector Gordon MacLeod is the Area Commander for the Western Isles and is based at Stornoway Police Station. His responsibilities include performance management, response policing, community engagement, partnership working and the daily management of personnel. The Local Area Inspector is Inspector Roddy Mackay. Western Isles Area Command The Western Isles, also known as the Outer Hebrides, are a chain of islands 30 miles off the north west coast of Scotland. The main islands are, from north to south, Lewis, Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra. Large numbers of visitors come to the islands each year to take part in outdoor pursuits, visit sites of historical interest and attend events such as the annual Hebridean Celtic Festival. The main police station is based in Stornoway – the largest settlement and administrative capital of the islands – with other police offices located at Tarbert, Lochmaddy, Balivanich, Lochboisdale and Castlebay.
