The spectacular scenery, cultural importance and abundant wildlife draw tourists during the summer months and the "Up Helly Aa" festival is a popular winter attraction. The remote and expansive geographical setting, weather and transport infrastructure present unique policing challenges in Shetland but resilient policing and strong partnership working ensure it remains one of Scotland's safest communities. The main police station is located in Lerwick. On Shetland's mainland there are single-officer stations at Dunrossness and Scalloway as well as a section station at Brae. The islands of Yell, Whalsay and Unst are all served by their own single-officer stations.
