Area Commander

Chief Inspector Derek McEwan is Divisional Commander and is responsible for local policing strategy. He is based at divisional headquarters in Glenrothes.

He is supported by Inspector Derek Paxton who has responsibility for community engagement and partnership working. Both officers are based at Glenrothes Police Station.

Glenrothes Area Command

Glenrothes local area consists of the New Town of Glenrothes and surrounding towns and villages including Markinch, Leslie and Thornton. Glenrothes population is just over 50,000, about 14% of the total population of Fife.

Glenrothes was established in 1948 around the old village of Woodside, much of which still exists, and has grown steadily over the last 60 years. One of the area’s main employers in is Tullis Russell paper mill, and there are also several industrial estates producing a diverse variety of goods and services.

Fife Council's headquarters are based in Glenrothes, and local radio station Kingdom FM is based in Markinch, in the former Haig's whisky bottling plant.
