Area Commander Chief Inspector Scott Carlin is the area commander and is responsible for the daily management of local personnel, performance management, community engagement and partnership working within West Dunbartonshire in order to ensure that key performance indicators and outcomes within the Local Policing Plan are delivered. Scott is based at Dumbarton Police Station. West Dunbartonshire Area Command Argyll, Bute and West Dunbartonshire Division has a large geographical footprint. At approximately 3000 square miles, it reaches from Clydebank as far north as Oban, out to Mull, Coll and Tiree and south to Islay and Kintyre. The make-up of each council area is quite diverse and, as a consequence, each presents different challenges for policing. West Dunbartonshire has 70 square miles of combined waterfront, urban and rural landscape. It’s undergoing significant regeneration, however it currently remains one of the most deprived areas in Scotland.
