First Rider Refinement North motorcycle training course held

Published 15 May 2018
This weekend saw the first of our new motorcycle safety training course, ‘Rider Refinement North’ being run in the North.

The one day course, which has been part funded by Transport Scotland's Road Safety Framework Fund was held on Saturday and Sunday in Forfar and saw 24 riders (12 each day) receiving advice and tuition on how to ride more safely when out on the local road network.

Road Policing Chief Inspector Stewart Mackie said: “We were delighted with the first two Rider Refinement courses held over the weekend. We had a good group of bikers who were all keen to develop their skills and ultimately improve their safety on the roads.

“The riders were given demonstration rides by the police motorcyclists who led the course and had filmed rides with feedback from the officers afterwards over the course of the day. From the comments received at the end of the courses, the riders found the course enjoyable, informative and worthwhile.

“The courses are running throughout the summer in Tayside, the North East and Dingwall in the Highlands. So far all of our courses in Inverurie are fully booked, however we still have spaces for courses in Tayside and Dingwall.

The course costs £30 per person is open to any qualified motorcyclist, however priority will be given to those living in Tayside, the North East and Highland and Islands.
