Woman who died in Peebles named

Police in the Scottish Borders can confirm the woman who died following an incident in Peebles as Alexandra Stuart.

Alex StuartOfficers were called to an address in Cuddyside at around 11.20am on Sunday 6 August following reports of an assault.

Alex, aged 22 from Peebles, was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she sadly passed away that evening.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder and appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday 7 August.

Detective Inspector Stevie Bertram of Galashiels CID said: "Our thoughts very much remain with Alex's loved ones, who have respectfully requested privacy at this incredibly difficult time.

"We're not currently looking for anyone else in connection with Alex's death. However, our enquiries continue and we'd urge anyone who may have information relevant to this investigation to get in touch."
