Following a review by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS), a number of issues were identified in relation to the accuracy of some stop and search data held on Police Scotland’s national database. HMICS stated in its review that Police Scotland should focus on future improvements rather than on the historical data.
To address the recommendations from HMICS together with recommendations from reviews by the Scottish Police Authority and the Service itself, Police Scotland has put in place an improvement plan. The plan sets out a number of activities which will be undertaken between now and early 2016. These improvements will enhance how the tactic is used, how activity is recorded and provide greater transparency in relation to the use of stop and search.
For the purposes of transparency, Police Scotland has published the data captured between 1 April 2013 to 31 July 2015. You can download the Excel files by clicking on the below links.
