Training for Trainers

Introduction

Training for trainers is aimed at developing the skills of trainers to carry out training needs assessment, the design, development and delivery of training programmes. The training is available to any organisation interested in developing training programmes. It is accredited at SCQF Level 8, certificated by Edinburgh Napier University.

Capability

We deliver a wide range of training to support trainer development. This includes, Training of Trainers (ToT), the Certificate of Higher Education in Training, Learning& Assessment (Cert HE), the Diploma of Higher Education in Training, Learning &Assessment (Dip HE) and Presentation skills.

Operational Training

Introduction

Police Scotland has earned an enviable reputation in relation to its delivery of operational policing. The diverse array of available training in this field is extensive and is tailored to ensure that our staff are as operationally effective as possible.

We have a long history of working with many individuals, groups, organisations and governments in building capacity in areas of interest. To simply list the training we have on offer would not do justice to our expertise in this field.

Capability

We can work with you to develop a single course or a suite of interventions to meet your specific needs, if need be, over an extended period. A sample of our courses range from Initial Recruit training, Leadership, First Aid, Command, Conflict Management, Crisis Negotiation and many more besides.

Specialist Services

Introduction

Police Scotland support our operational front line staff with a host of specialist, highly skilled resources, to ensure the most effective response. We have to have the capacity to respond, and escalate this response, to any critical or major incident in Scotland.

This area is extremely wide ranging and highly specialised, we have successfully delivered bespoke and standard courses in most disciplines to partners, law enforcement agencies and individual groups both at home and abroad.

Capability

We can work with you to develop a single course or a suite of interventions to meet your specific needs, if need be, over an extended period.

We provide specialist training in various disciplines such as Dive & Marine, Dogs, Horses, Search, Mountain Rescue, Public Order, Driver Training and Road Safety. Each specialist area has a wide range of training available.

Media

Introduction

Media training is aimed at supervisory and senior staff to develop their skills in dealing with the media at an operational level, normally during critical or major incidents.

This training is delivered by experienced practitioners and provides delegates with an understanding of how to develop a media strategy through to social media tactics.

Capability

We deliver a two day course in media skills using a range of exercises including television and radio interviews. We can also work with you to support capacity building in this area to develop your own staff.

Investigators

Introduction

This range of training interventions are aimed at developing the skills of investigators from Initial through to Senior Investigating Officers (SIO). Crime investigators training focuses on the application of legal knowledge and practical skills for investigators at all levels. Specialist courses are also available in subjects such as serious crime investigation, drugs offences, child protection and crime scene management.

The ability to investigate incidents thoroughly and professionally are as important to the police as they are to private industry, statutory bodies and third sectors.

Capability

We have a wide range of courses available for investigators of varying disciplines such as investigator interview training and crime pattern analysis. When delivering training out with Scotland, we tailor courses to suit different countries legislative frameworks.

Analytical Intelligence Gathering

Introduction

This training is designed to develop intelligence gathering and critical analytical skills. Although primarily based on the prevention and detection of criminal activity, a great deal of the content is transferable to partners and colleagues who sit outside law enforcement.

We can tailor training content to suit your individual needs in a range of interventions, in both existing and emerging technologies. We offer established courses in related subjects.

Financial

Introduction

Financial investigation training is aimed at developing the skills to target and disrupt organised crime networks, identify assets, oversee seizures and investigate money laundering enquiries. The training is available to law enforcement services but will also be of interest to the private and third sectors who wish to prevent internal fraud.

We have a wide range of training which can also be designed to meet your requirements. This includes - Financial Investigation, Money Laundering and Forensic Accountancy.

Events & Resilience Planning

Introduction

Public Safety is a core responsibility of Police Scotland. Our training in preparing our staff to respond to, and manage, planned or spontaneous incidents is critical. We design our training to fully prepare and test our officers in controlled and live environments. The role of the Scottish Multi-Agency Resilience Training and Exercise Unit (SMARTEU)is to provide a fully integrated and coordinated tri-service Training and Exercise Unit to meet the demands and requirements of the three Scottish ‘blue light’ emergency services, namely Police, Fire and Ambulance.

We provide expert and detailed planning capability to design, develop, deliver and evaluate training and exercising products and services.

Capability

We deliver specific courses focussed on events planning and can tailor these to suit your needs. We offer advice and support in designing bespoke simulated exercises to test your organisations resilience and capacity to respond to critical or significant incidents and identifying lessons learned.

We have a fully immersive facility to simulate exercises in a live, real time, but controlled environment.

Cyber Threats

Introduction

Cybercrime and cyber threats, committed in full or in part using information communications technology is ever evolving. Online criminal activity continues to pose a risk to organisations across the world. Police Scotland work in close partnership with international law enforcement agencies and partners to detect and deter. The training we offer is attractive to many organisations and governments to assist in the prevention of an attack.

We can design courses to your specific needs. We can host seminars and provide support and guidance to partners and law enforcement colleagues throughout the world, sharing our expertise in this area.

Corruption

Introduction

We promote and continually look to improve professional and ethical standards, to protect the integrity and reputation of Police Scotland and to further enhance public trust and confidence.

We have dedicated units who are the guardians of Police Scotland’s integrity. They protect the organisation in a number of ways, such as intelligence led investigations targeting those who seek to exploit vulnerabilities, to supporting officers and staff in identifying, taking ownership of and proactively addressing any corrupt practices and unethical behaviour.

Capability

We have particular expertise in robust complaints handing, vetting and risk management to protect the values and standards of the organisation. We can provide training and consultancy advice to help protect your organisation.

Community Safety

Introduction

Community Safety and Crime Prevention is an on-going and ever evolving area of training and is aimed at building capacity to prevent and disrupt criminal activity both physical and social.

Community Safety & Crime Prevention are not the charge of Police Scotland alone. We work effectively with partners to deliver training which is as relevant to statutory bodies as it is to private industry and third sectors.

Capability

We deliver a number of courses and seminars for clients through Crime Prevention training, Architectural Liaison, Restorative Justice, Drugs Education, Standard and Strategic Community Safety courses.

We can work with partners to develop and tailor interventions to suit individual circumstances, e.g. personal safety advice for groups.

Change Management

Introduction

Police Scotland was formed in 2013 from the legacy policing bodies. This period, known as Reform, was one of the largest public body transformational reform programmes delivered in Scotland in over a decade.

We have gained a wealth of expertise in the specialised field of Portfolio Management and Transformational Change against a backdrop of strict budgetary controls and accountability.

Capability

We can provide expertise, guidance and specialist support to Project and Portfolio Managers, involved in police specific reform or change, from initiation, through to delivery and benefits realisation.

We can provide services in areas such as Programme Co-ordination, Portfolio Assurance, (Business Benefits, Risk and Business Continuity), Portfolio Support, Strategic Planning and Development and Continuous Improvement.
