The Strategic Engagement Coordination Unit (SECU) supports ongoing engagement with key external stakeholders including Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS,) the Scottish Police Authority (SPA), Scottish Government (SG), Scottish Parliament, Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) and Society of Local Chief Executives (SOLACE).

SECU’s role is to ensure Police Scotland has a corporate approach when formally engaging with such stakeholders, ensuring a consistent approach to information exchange and efficient access to the relevant parts of the organisation. In this regard, SECU provides assistance to ensure engagement is with the appropriate external partner, at the right level and using the correct reporting/information exchange mechanisms.

Notwithstanding the above, to effectively deliver policing to the communities of Scotland it is recognised that local stakeholder engagement is paramount and local divisions continue to maintain their excellent engagement and relationships with local partners.SECU is part of Executive Support and works from Police Headquarters at Tulliallan.
