Assistant Chief Constable Nelson Telfer
ACC Telfer has responsibility for Operational Support, a national portfolio including Specialist Services, Emergency Events and Resilience Planning, Road Policing and most recently, Contact Command and Control division.
Assistant Chief Constable Nelson Telfer joined Strathclyde Police in 1990. In October 1994, following uniform and plain-clothes duties as an operational officer in North Lanarkshire, Nelson was sponsored by the Scottish Office and seconded to the University of Glasgow, where he completed a law degree.
In June 1997, he moved to the East End of Glasgow where he carried out further operational duties in Shettleston. From November 2000 until June 2001, he worked in a variety of roles as Local Authority Liaison Officer for South Lanarkshire. In May 2003, he was promoted and seconded to Glasgow City Council as Local Authority Liaison Officer, based within Community Services.
In April 2005, he was transferred to Wishaw as Patrol Inspector and later performed the role of Area Inspector for Wishaw and Shotts. In June 2009, he was appointed to Deputy Sub-Divisional Officer at Drumchapel and was responsible for the delivery of operational policing in the area.
In January 2010, he was promoted to Superintendent and took up the post of Deputy Divisional Commander for Glasgow Central and West Division. In November of that year he also graduated with an MBA at the University of Strathclyde.
In February 2012, Nelson was promoted to Chief Superintendent and assumed the role of Divisional Commander for North Lanarkshire, which has since combined with South Lanarkshire Division.
Nelson took up the role of temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing West in January 2015.
He was promoted to ACC in May 2017.
