Assistant Chief Constable Gillian MacDonald
T/ACC Gillian MacDonald joined Strathclyde Police in 1990. She spent her early career in uniform roles in Glasgow before moving into Divisional CID in proactive and reactive roles.
Gillian then moved on to the position of DCI at SCDEA with responsibility for Cyber, International Liaison, Witness Liaison, Covert Authorities Bureau, Forensics and Assisting Offenders. She then moved on to Area Commander at Gorbals, the most ethnically diverse community in Scotland, where she set up the Govanhill Hub, a local collaborative neighbourhood team which deals with local issues based right in the heart of the community, still working hard in the community today.
Gillian then moved on to become the Superintendent / Event Commander at Glasgow Division, responsible for crime and performance matters. She also regularly policed major football matches and events. Her next post was as Divisional Commander in Ayrshire between 2013 - 2017, where she introduced a successful Prevention First partnership initiative which was responsible for driving down violent crime across Ayrshire.
Gillian has successfully completed the UK Strategic Command Course 2017, and has since then lead work on development of a new performance framework for Police Scotland and the establishment of a new Leadership function & strategy for the service.
Gillian is passionate about Equality & Diversity, and has also established the Police Scotland Lean In network which seeks to encourage and support female officers to navigate their career aspirations.
Other notable achievements include leading delivery of and being Event Commander for the highly successful 145th Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon 2016 and Scottish International Air Show 2014/2016.
