ACC John Hawkins

Assistant Chief Constable John Hawkins

ACC John Hawkins is responsible for Local Policing in the north of Scotland. He is the SRO for the Contact, Command & Control (C3) Integration and Remodeling programme and the Local Approaches to Policing programme which will reshape Local Policing across Scotland. 

ACC Hawkins also holds the national portfolios for Public Confidence, Special Constables and the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers. 

He previously held the ACC Service and Protection portfolio and was responsible for C3 and Public Protection across Scotland. 

ACC Hawkins joined Lothian and Borders Police in 1992 and served in a number of uniform and CID roles in his early career. 

In 2008 he was promoted to Superintendent and seconded to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland where he was involved in a range of Inspection activity across Scotland. 

He served as Area Commander for South and East Edinburgh then as Temporary Chief Superintendent he was responsible for policing in East Lothian, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders. 

In 2013, following the creation of Police Scotland, he was promoted to Chief Superintendent and was appointed Head of Organisational Development before later becoming Divisional Commander for Forth Valley Division. 

ACC Hawkins is an experienced Event, Firearms and Public Order Commander. He is a former Fulbright Scholar.
